Born in Denmark Margit grew up in the west end of Toronto with many summers spent in her homeland. she was accustomed to seeing homes filled with paintings and she enjoyed watching her grandfather paint. He fostered her lifelong interest in art. However practicality prevailed and she worked in her profession (rehab), married and raised her family.
In 2004 she could no longer ignore the yearning to paint and so began the present journey. Passionate about the natural world for a time she focused exclusively on botanical subject matter.
After studying various mediums and techniques Margit decided to focus on oil and acrylic. she loves birds; her feisty and tame parrolet being a testament to the patience necessary to capture the accurate likeness of birds in her paintings.
More recently she has focused on still life painting organic forms delighting in capturing texture with the effects of light and shadow. Her work is labour intensive taking several weeks to complete.
