Karla Mann Grew up in a small town in the state of Washington. Her passion for drawing started at a very early age. Se continued as a self taught artist until she entered Tidewater Community College in 1991, the same year her son entered college. After receiving an Associate of Fine Art With honors from Tidewater Community College in 1994, she continued her education at Old Dominion Universigy. Karla graguated Suma Cum Laude with a Bacheler of Fine Arts in 1997. Karla has taught art at the Visual Arts Center of Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, Virginia and she is presently teaching, drawing and painting, at The Museum of Contempory Art in Virgina Beach, Virginia.
Karla has won numerous sclolarships and national and international awards for her work. Her most recent award was 3rd place in the 2011 Wyoming Wildlife Stamp Competion. Karla has been published in "The Best of Color Pencil, Daniel Smith Catalog, Art Wanted Creative Minds, The Artist Magazine, and the Wyoming Wildlife Magazine." Her commision and sold works are in collections from the USA to Europe.
The meduim of choice for Karla is oil, but she is very adept at color pencil, pastel, watercolor, and even sculpture. Karla's main interest at the present is wildlife. She photographs most of her own wildlife subjects to use as reference. Zoos offer a great chance to photograph a wide spectrum of wildlife. When ever Karla has the opportunity she travels to differnet locales to watch and photograph her subjects in the wild. Learning about the nature and peronalities of the animals as well as seeing them in their natural habitat, Karla feels, enhances her accuracy in protraying her subject.

Support for Conservation:
