Werner Rentsch frequently travels to Tanzania and his most recent paintings focus on wildlife in the Serengeti and surrounding wildlife management areas. He is a strong supporter of anti-poaching efforts there.
He is also known for his paintings of equine subjects. He has painted many portraits of great and near-great horses; his subjects include racing, show jumping, foxhunting, polo, farm scenes, and carousel horse paintings.
Honored with nine one-man shows, his work has appeared in twelve museum exhibitions including the Headley/Whitney Museum, Lexington, KY; the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame, Aiken, SC; the International Museum of the Horse, Lexington KY; the Kentucky Derby Museum, Louisville, KY; the Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT; the Appleton Museum of Art, Ocala, FL; Marietta/Cobb Museum. Atlanta, GA; the Canton Museum of Art, Canton, OH; the Racing Hall of Fame, Saratoga, NY; and the Wildlife Experience Museum, Denver, CO. His work has been selected in more than forty juried or group shows throughout the country.
His paintings and prints are widely sought after by collectors around the world. He is a full member of the American Academy of Equine Art and served as President from 1994 through 2008.
