Pastel on sandpaper

Light, texture, detail. The essence of the subject that makes it memorable. The beauty of nature, childhood explorations at her family cottage near Killarney Provincial Park; these have shaped and inspired this artist to observe, admire and learn from a wild and idyllic natural backdrop.

Charcoal and graphite sketches of animals were Cheryl's childhood storybook; she was blessed with talent recognizable at an early age, and has followed this passion for art and nature during her education and career. After obtaining an Economics degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, Cheryl spent several years operating a corporate art consulting business. Relocation to Northern Ontario allowed Cheryl to change her focus and spend more time developing her skills as a fine artist.

Between 2001 and 2009, Cheryl's work has several times been selected to be part of the Ducks Unlimited Canada National Art Print Portfolio, chosen from several hundred submissions nationwide. In 2009, her work was selected for inclusion in the prestigious Birds In Art international exhibition, and was also published in The Pastel Journal. Her work has also been recognized by both the Northern Ontario Art Association and the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada. A signature member of the Pastel Society of Canada, she exhibits annually at the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival in Buckhorn, Ontario, Canada. Her paintings can be found in collections across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Art is embraced through passion and commitment, and is enabled through the help of family, friends, and most of all, God above. The unconditional support of her husband, Brent, has provided Cheryl license to work, and her children's unique lens on the world has provided much inspiration.
