Natural history, conservation and the countryside have all provided the spur for my interest in wildife art and continues to provide a catalyst for current and future work.
Working mainly in acrylics, I aim to produce works that depict the natural world as a living, exciting place, if possible with the minimum influences that man has wrought on the environment. Each painting strives to tell a story, showing the interaction between various animals, with each other, other species, or with their environment.
My other non painting interests include giving illustrated talks on Wildife Art to local art societies and other interested groups.
Travel experiences in Kenya, Tanzania, Colorado and Utah have provided a wealth of reference and inspiration for my work. Colorado and Utah also proved an exciting experience, where I found much inspiration for another area of interest, that of the Native American Indians and the life and times of the Mountain men. This subject sits well with wildlife art as the first nation peoples and the mountain men lived in close harmony with the natural world.
In Canada I experienced the landscapes and wildlife of the National Parks of Alberta and British Columbia and other wild areas. Canada is a wildlife artists dream, fantastic scenary and so much wildlife, and easy to see.
I have also been to California, Nevada and Arizona, experiencing the spectacle of Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, the heat of Death Valley and beauty of Yosemite. What inspirational places. Where do I start with paintings?
This year it's Washington State, Idaho and my dream location, Yellowstone National Park. Let's see what new work comes out from this upcoming trip.
