I am primarily a self-taught artist. I drew a lot as a child and as a young adult did charcoal, graphite and pen and ink drawings, particularly of wildlife. I set my art aside for 25 years while developing my career as a marine biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service and raising a family. Graphiite and color pencil drawings of my dogs resulted in some commission work and a renewed interest in my art. A watercolor workshop with wildlife artists Joe Garcia, Adele Earnshaw and Greg Beecham rekindled the fires and I have been painting in watercolor ever since. I continue to do commissions of dogs and other pets while also depicting the fantastic variety of wildlife and habitats that I encounter in my wanderings. I work extensively from photographs and find being afield with my cameras is rewarding and inspires me to work back in my studio to capture the beauty of nature. My biological background and extensive field work never fail to assist me in imagining a scene that I want to capture and illustrate for others.

 
Support for Conservation:
The greatest threat to wildlife is loss of habitat. Although many species of animals have learned to co-exist with man, and some populations have even thrived, the loss of our wetlands and wilderness areas threatens a great number of animals. I contribute to a number of conservations organizations and Ducks Unlimited stands out for maintaining and even improving wetlands habitat so necessary to waterfowl and other migrating birds.

  • 2003 - People's Choice Award - Watercolor
    I won the People's Choice Award in Watercolor at the 54th annual Death Valley Days Art Show.
