Currently resident in Bedford, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Born and educated in Cradock, Eastern Cape.

Did a Diploma in Fine Arts at the Port Elizabeth Technikon from 1973 thru 1975.

Subsequently owned and managed an interior space design studio in Port Elizabeth.

Thereafter moved to Johannesburg where he was involved in space planning for hotels, and then to New York City, where he was director of design in an interior space planning studio.

On his return to South Africa he lived and worked for a while in Nelspruit, close to the world-renowned Kruger National Park.

He then co-owned and was the chef at The Artist's Cafe at Hendriksdal near Sabie, and then co-owned and was the chef at The Colony Room in Smithfield, Eastern Free State; at the latter town he also ran a guest house, pottery and delicatessen. He subsequently sold up and moved to Bedford in the Eastern Cape.

In Bedford he renovated the Old Gaol and, upon selling that, moved to De Kleine Maasstrom Farm, where he now lives and has his studio.

Has exhibited his work throughout South Africa, and many of his artworks are now in Game Lodges and homes in both South Africa and abroad.

Frans is concentrating on his passion for animals in his Wild Life Paintings.

The subject for the works are all taken from life. The WILD DOGS are an endangered species which are being reintroduced to the Eastern Cape in selected reserves.

Frans is in the process of establishing a Wild Dog Trust which will fund research, relocation and conservation of the last 400 wild dogs in South Africa, which he will be funded via the sale of some 60 paintings over a 4 year period.
