Thoth - Ibis (Mythical) by Hap Hagood
  Thoth
Subject: Ibis (Mythical)
Dimensions (inches): 15 x 9 x 4
Medium: Mahogany
Description: Thoth - The ancient Egyptian god of wisdom and learning, scribe of the Afterlife. When Thoth chose to walk among mortals here on earth, he assumed the form of the ibis. Ibises were often kept in the palaces of the region, where they were treated like the god they were believed to be. When one of these ibises died, its body was carefully wrapped and placed inside a sarcophagus to be entombed alongside the Pharoahs. Some ancient tombs have been found to contain hundreds of mummified ibises. 'Thoth' was among the works exhibited in the Salmagundi Art Club 29th Annual Non-Members Exhibition in New York City. 'Thoth' now proudly resides in the permanent collection of the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.
