Thirsty Grizzly
Subject: Grizzly Bear Dimensions (inches): 11 x 15 Medium: Watercolor Description: Past his prime, this old Grizzly Bear remains a beautiful, power of nature as he saunters down for a drink of cool water. Nicknamed 'Scarface' for the identifiable scars he bore across the right side of his face, this Grizzly Bear graced the wilds of the northern range of Yellowstone National Park for 25 years. In spite of being protected under the Endangered Species Act, he was shot and killed in the fall of 2015. Less than 5% of male Grizzly Bears live to age 25. I treasured every opportunity to see him on any of my many adventures to the Lamar Valley. In spring 2015 he captivated me with close views and opportunities to draw his magnificence as he rambled around the confluence of Soda Butte Creek and the Yellowstone River. Memories, photo references, sketches and awe converged into the creation of ‘Thirsty Grizzly'. An artistic tribute to a noble, iconic Grizzly Bear.
