HAWKSBILL TURTLE & COMMON MOON JELLIES
(2012)
Dimensions (inches): 8 x 10 Medium: acrylic on board Description: The Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is a coral-reef dependent sea turtle that is pantropical in distribution. It feeds on jellyfish, marine algae and sea anemones, but its most important foods are various sponges. Reef destruction by human activities and global warming, along with hunting pressures have reduced this turtle's numbers to critical lows. The Common Moon Jelly (Aurelia aurita), on the other hand, is an extremely common species found in marine waters worldwide. Eutrophication (over-fertilization) of marine waters from agricultural runoff has proved a great boon to this and a number of other jellies in recent years.
