KINABALU SHRUB FROG
(2010)
Subject: Kinabalu Shrub Frog Dimensions (inches): 7 x 5 Medium: acrylic Description: This little-known frog, Philautus amoena, is known only from high-altitude forests on Mount Kinabalu, in Sabah province, Malaysian Borneo. Its total length ranges from about 1 to 1½ inches. At night it leaves its daytime hides to prowl about tree bases and small bushes for any creature small enough to cram down its throat. Like most other members of the family Rhacophoridae, it produces a foam nest to protect its eggs. The one known nest of this species was secreted in a rock fissure, and contained 15 eggs. The tadpole stage occurs within the eggs, and fully formed froglets eventually emerge from the eggs.
