Casting Long Vintage Shadows
(2010)
Subject: Fishing still life Dimensions (inches): 16 x 20 Medium: Oil Description: Casting Long Vintage Shadows is a still life of fishing objects done in the Trompe l' Oeil style of painting. Trompe l' Oeil is French for 'fool the eye' or the illusion of three-dimensional objects on a two dimensional surface. Objects are rendered full size and must look believable from a foot away from the painted surface. This painting features a real photo postcard of a trout, a Winslow Homer souvenir post card of a leaping rainbow trout, a ripped advertisement from a Northern Pacific train trip to Yellowstone,a vintage Wright McGill 8 foot fly rod and reel and two trout flies. The light source was placed high to the right of the set up which causes the shadows to be casted longer than usual.
