Raven Study
(2005)
Subject: Raven Dimensions (inches): 15.5 x 16 Medium: Oil Description: The raven is not only a symbol of wilderness areas such as Algonquin Park where this specimen was observed, but it is also renowned for its high intelligence. Cultures around the world where the raven is found, observe it as an important character portrayed in myth and legend. A quote by H W Beecher in the mid 1800's illustrates the admiration for the mental acumen of members of the crow family, which includes the raven: 'If men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows'.
I painted 'Raven Study' with the intent of presenting a close-up and personal view of the subject, one that would focus on its alertness and hopefully convey the notion of an intelligent thinking mind.
