Subject: House Sparrow Dimensions (inches): 14.5 x 9.75 Medium: Oil Description: Not much attention is payed to the humble house sparrow, and when such is the rare case it is apt to be negative, perhaps about bothersome nesting habits or the fact that it is not native to North America. This has given me pause to question why I have returned so many times to painting this subject. Perhaps on some level I simply like the way the bird looks, or wish to reveal something that goes largely unnoticed. Certainly its adaptive nature, particularly in the presence of human activity, is an admirable quality, and one that is integral to its survival. 'The Opportunist' explores this aspect of the house sparrow by way of a simple situational narrative.
