Played Out
(2005)
Subject: African Lion Cub Dimensions (inches): 5 x 8.5 Medium: Oil Description: Observations of this lion cub and its siblings were made over several days in Chobe River National Park, Botswana. One evening the lioness spent an extended period of time stalking giraffes within sight of the cubs. Given the unlikely chance of one lion bringing down a full grown giraffe, I estimated she played out this act as a demonstration of stalking skills for the benefit of her offspring. Certainly they paid close attention to what was going on. Eventually though, the cubs grew tired and soon were dozing off in the last bit of evening light.
