Coral Beach
(1998)
Subject: Laughing Gull Dimensions (inches): 4.5 x 7.5 Medium: Oil Description: The sea surge from a hurricane swept the sand away from this beach on Florida's Gulf Coast and was subsequently replaced with loads of fossilized and worn coral from a nearby quarry. Wind and rain worked its naturalizing effect on this new surface, sifting the smaller particulate into a compact layer with larger pieces left protruding. In the bright light of mid-day the beach fairly glowed. The slate gray back of a winter plumaged laughing gull stood out darkly against the glare while its white areas reflected colours of sky and warm sand.
