Hybrid Falcon
(2012)
Subject: Lanner Gyrfalcon cross breed Dimensions (inches): 12.5 x 12.5 Medium: Oil & Graphite on Russian Birch Description: Members of the falcon family have a wonderfully intense demeanour about them; sleek, proud, and endowed with the sharp black eyes of a consummate hunter. These birds have a tradition of being used for hunting by humans, and for this role species are often cross-bred for the purpose of developing traits the breeder sees as desirable. The Lanner-Gyr cross is admired for its combination of swift agility and power, qualities that seem to project from the bird even while at rest. The use of two mediums to express the blending of two species seemed quite appropriate to me, and resulted in a stronger effect than I had anticipated......something sure to demand further exploration and expression.
