Subject: Voyageur packs and sail - ring-billed gulls Dimensions (inches): 6 x 8 Medium: Oil Description: Trade Goods was inspired by accounts of the voyageurs during the fur trade, and my own experiences of traveling long distances by canoe. The individual items were recorded first in my sketch book while visiting a historical re-enactment, with the primary appeal being their shapes and the effect of direct sunlight. The addition of ring-billed gulls and a stony beach comes directly from time spent along the shores of Lake Superior.
