Subject: House Wren Dimensions (inches): 8.25 x 5.5 Medium: Oil on Prepared Panel Description: I find great appeal in the effects of weather and repeated usage on the surface of things. Paint wears, cracks and peels; metals stain and rust, combining to form patterns and textures of endless intricacy. In Dutch Door these surface features are presented within a matrix of carefully orchestrated triangles and rectangles. The cursive form of the house wren sets itself against this arrangement and the pure black rectangle of interior space, yet manages a harmony through colour and a sense of familiar belonging in this environment.
