Late Harvest
(2001)
Subject: Common Grackles & Shucked Corn Dimensions (inches): 8 x 10 Medium: Oil Description: The idea for Late Harvest came from observations made at a nearby historic site where bushels of shucked corn attracted not only hungry human visitors but some of the local wildlife as well. This painting is an orchestration of elements, set up within a unified pattern of repeating ovals found in the open tops of the bushel baskets and the pool of light in the foreground. The postures of the grackles also echo this repeating shape, but in this case the oval they would form has been split and inverted to reflect their disruptiive intrusion to the scene.
