Subject: Laughing Kookaburra Dimensions (inches): 9 x 5.25 Medium: Oil Description: There was a very real danger that such a small painting would not be adequate to express the exuberant character of this member of the kingfisher family. However, by emphasizing the strong diagonal of his perch, and the effects of backlighting I hoped to emphasize the bird's presence. At the same time, the surrounding painted space hopefully expresses a volume of air which in turn might also create an illusion of a much larger area than the painting's dimensions might otherwise indicate.
