Subject: Elder Woman Dimensions (inches): 10.5 x 7.25 Medium: Oil Description: The frequenting of early pioneer sites has provided a wealth of interesting subject matter, from buildings, artifacts, domesticated animals, indiginous wildlife that has adapted to human settlement, and of course the people themselves. The woman portrayed here was in the process of telling a series of stories, each with vivid characters playing out their roles within the historic context of the tale. The skillfully conveyed expressions, gestures, and demeanour of these characters were not only a delight to observe, but proved inspirational as well. The chosen moment in The Pragmatist comes from a point when the narrator conveys a disaproving wonder at the foolishness of one of the story characters.
