My Best Girl / Miniature (Commission)
Subject: Siberian Husky
Dimensions (inches): 3.5 x 5
Medium: Acrylic on Strathmore Illustration Board, 500 Series
Description: There's always room for one more miniature, especially if it's to be of your companion animal.
Being acquainted with, and owning several of my miniature works, these clients decided it was time to have a miniature of their best girl, Misha. They only had one photo for me to work from! Fortunately it had a good face, but there was hardly any body showing and I had to rely on verbal instruction for Misha's markings. Knowing the quality and the care I give to every painting I do, this client didn't require any preparatory sketches. But once I finished the painting I did email an attachment for approval. The painting was instantly approved and I proceeded with the framing as requested.
Most people prefer to work with their own framer, but often in the case for miniatures I personally handle the framing. That's because most framers won't chop to the small sizes minis require, but I have a great source that will cut to the sizes I need. In the case of miniature commissions, I'll select several moldings that I feel complement the painting, work some computer magic and then present the finished painting in these suggested frames in a jpg format. The client makes a selection based on my presentations, the frame is then ordered, and once it comes in I complete the assembly.
