Subject: Lake Erie gulls coming ashore Dimensions (inches): 12 x 16 Medium: transp watercolor on Arches 140lb Rough Description: Downtown Cleveland sits right at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River as it empties into Lake Erie. And there always seems to be 100,000 gulls working the shoreline and river. But this painting was inspired by this line of gulls coming ashore right behind the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There is an old ocean going oreboat, the Mather, tied up there as a tourist attraction. And as I watched this line of gulls glide gently into land they flew in front of the Mather. And as I studied their lazy flight pattern I wondered if I could paint them against this dark background without laboring the subject, keeping some sense of spontaneity to the piece. So this is the result of my efforts.
