• VERY SPECIAL POSTER: David Rankin designed & Produced these special edition posters for the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin back in 1991. It was designed and created by professional wildlife artist, David Rankin, to be used by the International Crane Foundation all over the world. They were originally created for a special international symposium of crane scientists to be held way out in a remote part of the Amur River Region between China & Mongolia back in 1991. Shipping several thousand posters half way around the world in a variety of methods was a daunting task. And to get them there in good condition took careful design and special care. David Rankin got his tube manufacturer, Ace Paper Tubes in Cleveland, Ohio, to create a custom designed tube with extra thick walls. David oversaw creation of a heavywalled tube with large wooden plugs in each end that could withstand the weight of a truck driving over the tube! And once they convinced David of it's effectiveness David split the order into numerous tubes, shipping them to scientists all over the world... who then hand-carried thousands of tubed posters into Asia to be distributed.
• This poster took months of work for David Rankin to design and execute the original artwork. David had already been studying and painting the Cranes of India for several years but this poster required special field trips up to the Crane Foundation so that David could design a poster that showed all of the world's 15 species of cranes in their natural size relationships, colorations, and distinctive markings., David carefully sketched and photographed each species and then set about creating the large master artwork for the poster. The original watercolor was 60' long and 6' long once framed. David donated the original to the International Crane Foundation and it now hangs in their new Research Center Library.
