Jokers Request to become a Face Card
(2005)
Subject: chimp, hedge hog, baceball, clown fish Dimensions (inches): 40 x 30 Medium: oil Description: Playing cards with friends a couple years ago, I wondered why Jokers were not face cards and often put aside. I drew this up about a year ago and finally got around to doing it. JC was a three year old female chimp I met in Las Vegas in 2004. The handler got her to pose for me. I got very attached to her. So I painted JC on the cape in her honor. I chose something hard, the baceball, something soft, the hedge hog, and something breakable, the clown fish in the glass bowl to have JC juggle. The reflection in the water is a reverse reflection to have the look of a face card.
