When the Day is Gone - European Eagle Owl by Valentin Katrandzhiev
When the Day is Gone  (2012)
Subject: European Eagle Owl
Dimensions (centimeters): 61 x 100
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description: The European Eagle Owl/bubo bubo/ is the largest owl in Europe. It is a remarkable hunter as in its menu there are not only rodents, birds, amphibians, but also larger animals such as young foxes and the fastest flying birds the swifts. Typically active during the night but when feeding the young ones it hunts during daytime as well. It forms steady nesting couples and is in a constant audio-visual connection with its partner. In the past the common use of poisonous bait suddenly reduced the population of those birds in Europe, but in the last 30 years there is a stabilization and growth in the population. Among the hazardous factors impacting this species are the use of herbicides in agriculture, electric installations , disturbance, etc.
