Eastern Barred Bandicoots
(2016)
Subject: Endangered Species - Eastern Barred Bandicoots Dimensions (centimeters): 35 x 50 Description: The Eastern Barred Bandicoot was considered extinct on the Mainland of Australia. However, some have recently been discovered in Hamilton Victoria, sheltering under car wreckage in a tip. Zoos Victoria coordinates a captive breeding program and works closely with the recovery team, to bring the species back from the brink.
The Eastern Barred Bandicoots, in this painting, are from Tasmania, where they are listed as ‘requiring monitoring' on the Tasmanian Threatened Species List 1995. Nationally, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot is classified as vulnerable. So far it is believed that foxes have not reached Tasmania and they are working hard to keep it this way. Another threat to the Bandicoot is loss of habitat, which is critical to any creature's survival and so it is important for me to include habitat in my work. Also, I do love to paint it.
