Bald Ibis II
Subject: Bird -Northern Bald Ibis Dimensions (inches): 11 x 15 Medium: Watercolor on paper Description: A marvelous spectacle of nature- the Northern Bald Ibis. Less than 600 remain, making this bird one of the most critically endangered birds on the planet. I find the Bald Ibis to be a dichotomy of beauty and unsightliness. The bird is distinctly unusual in appearance with an incongruous face and a whimsically long, protruding down-curved beak. Black, snaky iridescent feathers run riot out the back of it's head. Strong, sturdy legs hold up the hefty body covered in black feathers that harmoniously shimmer the colors of the rainbow in light. It would be a great loss to lose something so spectacular. Habitat loss, hunting, and poisoning have been implicated in the decline of the species.
