Subject: Humpback whale breaching Dimensions (inches): 30 x 24 Medium: Acrylic on canvas Description: This painting depicts a breach by humpback whale that I witnessed while working as an assistant to The Center For Whales Studies. At that time we had been following a trio of humpback whales off the island of Maui, HI. We had been photographing and filming both on the surface and below as they leisurely cruised along the coast. The trio was a mother and calf along with a male escort. On one occasion while filming the escort made a full breach very close to where we stationed. It happened so quickly there was no time to be scared. The whale had no intention of hurting us and only left us with a wonderful memory.
