Subject: Mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos)-waterfowl painting Dimensions (inches): 8.5 x 18.5 Medium: pastel on archival paper Description: *SELECTED FOR AFC 2012 ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF NATURE IN ART* I always marvel at the complexity of waves, splashes and intricate ripple patterns of moving water and my intention with this painting is to capture and freeze that moment in time. The flash of the brilliant, iridescent turquoise speculum on the bird's wing as it prepares to take flight, as well as the subtle patterned plumage of the female mallard duck, to me, is much more interesting to paint than the more colorful drake.
