Late Winter Feast (SOLD)
(2011)
Subject: Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)-bird painting Dimensions (inches): 3 x 5 Medium: colored pencil on archival paper Description: Ripened crabapples make for a choice buffet on a stormy winter's day for a flock of waxwings. It took little more than 15 minutes for the birds to strip my neighbor's tree bare and gorge themselves on the bitter tasting fruit. Sometimes, when the fruit over-rippens and ferments, birds do suffer the consequences of alcholol consumption and become vulnerable to predators while in their drunken state or even die of poisoning.
