Subject: Alaskan Fireweed and Chickadees Dimensions (inches): 15 x 20 Medium: Watercolor Description: While traveling in Alaska, I became familiar with this beautiful flower which our guides told us is the first plant to grow after a wildfire. It is similar to the spring phlox that grows wild in PA. Upon close examination it has elegant lines, shapes, and colors that remind me of the Art Nouveau Period. The chickadees add an element of movement and involvement in the environment which also creates a link between Alaska and my own state of PA.
