Grasslands Shadow - Cougar by Patricia Mansell
  Grasslands Shadow  (2008)
Subject: Cougar
Dimensions (inches): 28 x 22
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description: Cougars are favorite subjects of mine, they are efficient and stealthy predators. Often referred to as the 'shadow cat', the Cougar moves often unseen. In this painting I loved the play of light between the coat of the cougar and the dry grass where it is hunting. When painting any big cat, I use my own kitty as reference for how all cats move and pounce – once I decide on a painting I photograph my own cat moving in the same manner and use these when painting the 'large cat'.
