The Bilby - In Our Hands - Australian Bilby by Michelle Caitens
The Bilby - In Our Hands  (2009)
Subject: Australian Bilby
Dimensions (centimeters): 75 x 50
Medium: Oil
Description: The bilby, a nocturnal marsupial native to Australia, has been described as being ‘stuck together by a committee'. It has huge ears, a tail like a tufted pencil and a gallop like a rocking horse!

This delicate oil painting was painted after the artist heard an educational talk by Frank Manthey, co-founder of the ‘Save the Bilby Fund', to raise awareness of the plight and endangered nature of the bilby. With the population of the bilby declining due to predation by feral cats and foxes and the loss of natural habitat, the little marsupial's fate is truly in our hands…
