Description: Living on the northern California coast for 12 years, we kept a sharp lookout for migrating humpback whales passing our Santa Cruz area between their winter calving grounds off the coast of Mexico and their feeding areas farther north. Humpback Whales pass through the Monterey Bay area's mile deep canyon area to feed on anchovies, sardines, and krill.
