Subject: Magpie Tanager Dimensions (inches): 18 x 23 Medium: oil on prepared watercolor paper Description: Tropical tanagers are a diverse group, generally sporting bright colors, but this one resembles in plumage the magpie of the northern hemisphere. It also has similar habits and behavior. Rather than a forest bird, as most tanagers tend to be, the Magpie Tanager prefers open areas where it flies conspicuously along a river and forest edge. My experiences with this bird were in the Tambopata region of s-e Peru.
