Endangered Whooping Crane
(2009)
Subject: Whooping Crane, Birds, Cranes Dimensions (inches): 52 x 21 Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Description: Wendy Palmer is honored to be the chosen Alberta Wildlife Artist to take part in a unique fundraiser through the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation in Campbellford, Ontario. The fund raising event called 'The Other Canvas' (www.theothercanvas.ca/event.html ) involves some of Canada's most well known artists and celebrities. The Canvas Chair is a Northumberland Easel Chair in which each artist paints on the canvas seat or hammock portion of the chair. Wendy decided to paint 'Endangered Whooping Crane' to help promote the efforts of conservation breeding programs and reintroduction endeavors for this endangered species. Whooping Cranes are one of three Canadian bird species listed as globally endangered by the World Conservation Union. Thanks to a long-term co-operative international conservation effort, these amazing birds have been brought back from the brink of extinction in the 1940's. However, while whooping crane numbers are increasing they still remain one of the most threatened crane species in the world.
Wendy Palmer has donated this painting and 100% of the profits to this fundraiser which will be part of a live auction charity event which takes place September 19, 2009 at the Westben Arts Barn www.theothercanvas.ca/event.html
