Hidden Treasures
(2013)
Subject: Wren and various insects
Dimensions (inches): 28 x 26
Medium: oil on linen
Description: You probably look at this painting and your eyes are dazzled, there's a lot to take in! Most of the time I try and simplify paintings so there is a clear focus or path that your eye will follow but in this painting I broke all the rules.....on purpose!!! I like to have things neatly displayed, put in order and packaged in a nice box but nature isn't like that. It's often messy and unruly with lots going on, but within the chaos of beauty and decay there are hidden treasures, things we miss or don't take notice of because we are so used to looking at the bigger picture. Hidden within this painting is a Wren, a Large White butterfly, Grey Dagger moth, a Bumblebee, a Common Froghopper (the little bug that creates the foam seen on the stem of grass) Crane Fly (Daddy Long Legs), Barred Yellow moth, and probably the most difficult to find a little House Mouse!
