Subject: Young Herero girl, Okahandja Dimensions (centimeters): 42 x 31 Medium: Mixed Description: This was a little girl we met as we were waiting for the start of the parade at the Herero Festival in Okahandja. Unlike the other children that were crowding round us, we was standing all alone and appeared very shy. My heart went out to her as she was very poorly dressed in literally a sackcloth. Obviously, someone loved her and had taken the time to put her hair into all those tiny twists. So I tried to portray this hopeful child anticipating the start of some rare treat.
