A Moment Lost In Time
(2006)
Subject: Native American Indians Dimensions (inches): 15 x 12 Medium: Oil on Canvas Description: The Ohio Valley had a rich diversity of flora and fauna. It more than sustained the Native Americans that lived off the land. By the end of the 18th Century however, some of the native wildlife were on the brink of extinction because of the encroachment of the settlers. The Carolina Parakeet, the only native parrot in North America was one of them. It was so tame that the Native Americans enjoyed interacting with them. I imagined a little Shawnee child, while gathering nuts and berries for her village, encountering one and taking a few moments to play, just as our children would do today if they had such an opportunity. Sadly, the Carolina Parakeet became extinct in 1918.
