They Loved Their Children Too
(2005)
Subject: Native American Indians Dimensions (inches): 36 x 18 Medium: Oil on Canvas Description: The Edge of Appalachia, in Southeastern Ohio, is known for its massive shale and dolomite outcroppings. They look high above as one walks the woodland trails. These formations have existed for millions of years and throughout human history they have endured. During the 18th century small Native American villages were sustained by the rich diversity of this land. It is quite likely that they walked under the same outcroppings that I walked under last summer as I did the research needed to create this painting. We are all aware from reading our history books of the brutality that the Native Americans and settlers inflicted on one another. But we must also remember that these fierce warriors were defending their homeland and families. They loved their children too.
