Ship Emerging through Fog
(2008)
Subject: Arctic Dimensions (inches): 12 x 16 Medium: Oil on panel Description: The Inuit elders we were travelling with told us of an ancient community along the coast of where we were travelling on Baffin Island. Because the ice had melted, we were able to do depth soundings with our zodiacs and explore landscape that no ship had ever visited previously. An inuksuk emerged out of the fog, so we went ashore to discover an ancient community. Being able to experience this with the Inuit and hear their stories was a very special experience. After exploring, I sat by the side of the water, basking in the sunlight and watching a seal play not far off. Then, because the zodiac did depth soundings, our ship was able to come closer and emerged out of the fog.
