Subject: An Australian Platypus swimming under water and on land Dimensions (centimeters): 48 x 44 Medium: Coloured Pencils Description: Many artists paint platypuses under water with their eyes open when in fact they are shut. This creature has evolved a highly sensory duck-like bill, enabling it to locate its prey in turbid water without the need of sight. I drew its mate sunning itself in full view but equally wary of aerial predators, with its eyes open.
