They can easily look like part of a rough branch until they open their golden eyes to check you out! I have a pair nesting in my back paddock at present and the nest is so flimsy that you would think no baby frogmouths would ever reach maturity. They are a delight to paint with the wonderful mottled markings on their feathers and their great golden eyes.
