African Pearl-Spotted Owl
(2006)
Subject: African pearl - spotted owl Dimensions (centimeters): 91 x 46 Medium: oil Description: This is another beautiful little owl that I have regularly seen in Africa. It is often visible during the day and can be seen sitting quietly on a dead branch of a tree trying to keep out of trouble until the light wanes. Because of its small size it is often mobbed by other small birds. When we spotted this little fellow in Namibia it was hard to tell which way it was facing until we got quite close. This is because it has faulse eye markings on the back of its head which are there to confuse either its prey or other predators.
