Celebrate the Beauty of Nature in Oil Paintings
Heralds of Spring - Crocus by  Harlan
  Heralds of Spring  (2007)
Subject: Crocus
Dimensions (inches): 30 x 40 x 1.5
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Description: Crocus are always a delight because they mean that Spring has really arrived. While the weather may still be occasionally contrary, crocus endure it all and brighten any garden. They look especially vibrant against the dull leaves from the previous fall.
This was a 'fast' painting project. 'Fast' by my standards since much of my work is extremely time consuming. From time to time I set myself such a project to push myself. When painting twice as fast as I normally do much of the work becomes instinctual. I have to make quick decisions about color and contrast and every brush stroke has to count. I particularly enjoyed this painting. The lighting on the flowers was amazing and reminds me how even the smallest of Mother Nature's offerings are breathtaking!
