Afternoon Snooze - Koala by Geraldine Simmons
  Afternoon Snooze  (2010)
Subject: Koala
Dimensions (centimeters): 42 x 34
Medium: Colored pencil, pastel, watercolour, gouache
Description: While spending the day at Taronga Zoo taking some reference photos I came across this young koala taking his afternoon snooze. In my original drawing I incorporated my own background to indicate his natural habitat. Colored pencil is the main medium used in this drawing. Koala populations are continually fighting the effects of habitat destruction, domestic dog attacks, bush fires, road accidents and disease. In most states they are classified as 'vulnerable.'

Original is in flesh coloured timber frame with whitish border and plexiglass.
